The author was twenty-six years old when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. As Teresa Meinert worked she found she had a talent for speaking with people. A Hoyer lift is commonly used in this situation. With a lift, a piece of canvas is placed under the person, the canvas is attached to a machine, whether manual or electric, and the person is lifted into the air. The Hoyer is then maneuvered to the specified location, and the person is placed gently in the desired spot. Again, this is what generally happens. From my experience, things do not always happen as desired.
